I've seen some other players pop up in this space lately, as well as some very large companies who tout the "direct from farmer' line.
... and if you dig into their terms and conditions you'll find something like ..
"reserves the right to sell goods on consignment and return unsold products"
and / or
"reserves the right to purchase goods at wholesale prices and sell at an RRP determined by ... other company"
Now, at what point does "buy direct from a farmer" become false advertising?
On the Farmer to Fridge platform all our farms are independent entities, they set their own prices, and they determine what they want to sell, and when. We aren't buying the products from the farmers, putting it in a warehouse somewhere, and then reselling it to you.
We only get paid when a farm makes a sale, if there are no sales, then we make no money.. simple as that! I firmly believe that over the long term this is the ONLY model that will ensure that Farmer to Fridge always puts farmers first and ALWAYS keeps working to improve the experience for farmers and customers.
Maybe this is just something that bothers me... but if a supermarket chain started saying 'buy direct from a farmer' .. would you believe that?
How can these other companies who centralise production, processing, distribution and shipping claim with a straight face to be 'direct from a farmer' ?
